A visit to the National Holocaust Centre and Museum including a history workshop and an age-appropriate talk by a survivor (subject to availability and covid restrictions – if a talk takes place, it is likely to be a live webinar)

“The National Holocaust Centre and Museum promotes an understanding of the roots of discrimination and prejudice, and the development of ethical values, leading to a greater understanding within society. The Centre uses the history of genocide as a model of how society can break down, and emphasises how current and future generations must carefully examine and learn from these tragedies. The Centre promotes respect for human rights, equal opportunities and good citizenship, which has greater resonance than ever in our culturally diverse society.
The National Holocaust Centre provides a range of facilities for people of all backgrounds to explore the history and implications of the Holocaust.”

Subject to covid restrictions, the students have an introductory session and then complete rotations around the museum. They will have time in the main museum exhibition; a chronological history of the Holocaust and time in the memorial gardens. The memorial gardens feature several sculptures and memorials and over one thousand roses each with their own dedicated plaques. There will be a history-focussed workshop. There will be a period of time dedicated where students can eat their packed lunches. The speaker (subject to availability and covid restrictions) will give a talk (alternatively, there will be a pre-recorded testimony) and the students will be able to ask questions.

There may be limited adult spaces in the workshop.

Costs will be:

Children/students £7.50 each

Adults £7.50 each (any savings arising from free adult spaces will be pro-rated between those who attend on the day and refunds will be made after the event)

Age-range
This event is aimed at children aged 12yrs+. If you have an 11yr old child who is emotionally mature, then please email: educationista foundation [at] gmail.com (close up the gaps and replace [at] with @) )

There will be a very small number of places for younger siblings of participating secondary students.
Please note that the younger siblings will NOT be able to participate in the education programme, nor the talk; and they will need to be accompanied by a parent/adult for the entire duration of the visit.

Unfortunately, The National Holocaust Centre and Museum do not accommodate any babies/toddlers/children under the age of 9yrs owing to the subject matter.
