The beauty of home education is that anyone can organise an event or activity. This is what helps to give home-education is variety and allows the children/students the opportunity for group-learning or to access events/advitities that require a greater number of attendees to make it feasible.
Organising a Home Ed event is normally easy and straightforward. However, there are a few things to be aware of.
If there are charges/costs involved, you will need to state this up-front, so people can make an informed decision. It’s generally assumed that you are not making a profit from organising events/activities (although sadly, increasingly, this is not a given. If you are making a profit, it's polite to declare the costs/profit, indeed some home-ed groups/email lists will not allow a profit-making activity to be directly promoted without transparency of costs/profit. (This also applies to the "sharing" of any free adult/teacher/parent places and/or children/student places)
If you are thinking of organising an event or activity with a charges/costs involved, you may wish to consider collecting payment in advance of the day. This is to protect you, in the case of “no-show” families and/or to prevent a last-minute cost-increase for those families who do go.
The Event Manager facility is free to use for any home-educator who is organising a home-ed event, where the home-educator is not making a personal profit. (Standard PayPal fees apply to payment processing, but you can ask that people pay you separately. Further details can be found here.
